In the previous post we discussed the minimum lighting levels required for the lift shaft and the machine room.
And this naturally raises a question:
how can we check that those values are actually being met?
The answer is simple:
we need a fundamental tool —the lux meter.
A lux meter measures the amount of light present in an environment, but be careful: the reading does not depend only on the light source.
Finishes, materials, and surface colors can also influence the result, increasing or reducing the perceived value.
And before we understand what we measure, let’s take a step back.
Lumen and lux are not the same thing.
Lumen (lm): the amount of luminous energy emitted by a LED light source.
Lux (lx): the amount of light present in a room, that is, the illuminance generated by the source and reflected by the environment.
Understanding this difference is essential to design, verify, and above all ensure that an installation complies with regulations.
