When it detects someone, it switches the light on.
When it no longer detects movement or presence, the light turns off after a preset period of time.

Why is it used so often?

PIR sensors have been on the market for many years.

The limitations you should know

The second is size.
Compared to more modern solutions, PIR sensors are often more visible and require dedicated installation space.

The elevator application

This is where an interesting consideration comes into play.
In an elevator cabin, aesthetics matter. A lot.
For this reason, the integration of a sensor must be carefully evaluated.
